Are you a Local Authority approved supplier?

We are a Local Authority Approved Supplier with North Tyneside Council.

Are you HSE Approved?

As of 1 October 2013, the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 were amended, removing the requirement for HSE to approve first aid training and qualifications. This means that businesses now have more flexibility in how they manage their provision of first aid in the workplace.

Do I need a Paediatric First Aid course?

Anyone who is responsible for the care of a child in the absence of their parent must hold a suitable first aid certificate such as the 12hr Paediatric First Aid Course that meets the statutory requirements of the 2008 Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Guidelines.

Do you meet employer’s requirements for ‘Due Diligence’?

From October 1st 2013 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) no longer approve first aid training. Instead employers must show ‘due diligence’ in their selection of a first aid provider. To help employers in this process we are registered with the relevant awarding bodies and are local authority approved with North Tyneside Council 343040. Please contact us should you have any further queries concerning quality assurance and training standards.

Do you provide Ofqual accredited courses?

We are able to provide Ofqual accredited courses for our Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), First Aid at Work (FAW) and Paediatric First Aid courses and Automated External Defibrillation (AED).

Do you run courses in the evening or on a weekend?

We occassionally run some of our public access Paediatric First Aid Courses over four evenings or weekends. If you require in house training we can offer this to suit your requirements. Please contact us on 07921158490 to discuss your specific needs.

Do your courses conform to any national training standards?

Yes. Following the withdrawal of first aid training approval by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in October 2013 we have maintained national standards in first aid training through our Ofqual accredited awarding bodies such as First Aid Awards and Qualsafe to ensure that the standards required of First Aid at Work remains at the highest possible level.

Do your Paediatric First Aid Courses meet the requirements of Ofsted & EYFS?

The Paediatric First Aid Courses that we offer are compliant with both Ofsted and EYFS requirements and are QCF Level 3 awards.

How do I book a place on a public course?

You can either download a booking form direct from the tab at the top of our webpages or email us info@firstaidnorth.co.uk and we can email you a form or ring us on 01670457116 and we can post a hard copy out to you.

How do I pay?

You can pay by cheque made payable to First Aid North or pay by BACS transfer via your bank. If you chose to use this method you will need to quote the course reference number or course ID and your surname when making your payment. If you have any problems please call us on 07921158490 We do not currently offer payment by card.

How long are certificates valid for?

Certificates for accredited training are valid for a period of three years from the date of issue.

How many first aiders do I need?

Employers are required to carry out an assessment of first-aid needs. This involves consideration of workplace hazards and risks, the size of the organisation and other relevant factors, to determine what first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel should be provided.

How will I be assessed?

For accredited training you will be continually assessed by the course Instructor throughout the duration of the course to ensure that you fulfil the competencies. You will also have to complete written test papers which will consist of multiple choice questions.

I have a physical impairment can I still be a first aider?

It will depend on your ability to carry out the necessary skills as set by the awarding body. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs.

My certificate has expired; can I still act as First Aider in the workplace?

No, HSE states that once your qualification has expired you can no longer act as a First Aider in the workplace. It is our policy to notify previous students when their certificate is due to expire so that they can make suitable arrangements to requalify.

What if I can’t attend a course I have booked and paid for?

If you cannot attend a course that you have booked and paid for please let us know by telephoning 07921158490 or emailing info@firstaidnorth.co.uk in the first instance. Depending on when you cancel you may be able to transfer to another course In accordance with our cancellation policy. Please see our full terms and conditions before you book a place.

What if I can’t attend part of my booked course?

You must attend the full course to gain an accredited qualification. If you cannot attend part of your course after you have booked a place you will be subject to our cancellation policy as laid out in our terms and conditions.

What if I don’t pass the course?

If you do not pass the course the Instructor will inform you in private why he/she was unable to pass you as competent and discuss with you what your available options are in relation to resitting your course.

What is included with each course?

We will provide a qualified, experienced and knowledgeable trainer, clean, hygienic training equipment, high quality presentation material, first aid training manual, and certificates valid for three years where appropriate.

What is the difference between EFAW and FAW?

On October 1st 2009 the Health and Safety Executive introduced the new 6 hour Emergency First Aid at Work course (EFAW) for those people working in small & medium businesses (up to 50 employees) with a low to medium risk workplace. The 3-day (18hrs) First Aid at Work course (FAW) is the industry standard course for all other work environments with 50+ employees and/or higher risk workplaces as recommended by the HSE.

What type of First Aid Qualification do I need?

Depending upon your first aid needs you may require the 18hr (3-day) First Aid at Work course or the shorter 6hr (1-day) Emergency First Aid at Work course. The HSE has produced two comprehensive guidance documents Final Guidance to the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 & Further Guidance on the Selection of first Aid Training Providers for employers on choosing a First Aid Provider which can both be downloaded free from HSE Website.

When will I find out if I have passed the course?

The course Instructor will inform you whether you have passed at the end of the course.
